A hearty, wholesome loaf of whole wheat bread made with simple ingredients. Perfect for everyday sandwiches, soups, or toasting.

Ingredients

3 cups whole wheat flour

1 1/4 cups warm water

2 1/4 tsp instant yeast

1 tsp salt

1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional)

2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, honey, and yeast. Let sit until foamy.

2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.

3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled.

5. Punch down dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased bread pan.

6. Cover and let rise for another 30–45 minutes.

7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 35–40 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding.

8. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

This bread freezes well when sliced and wrapped tightly.

For extra flavor, add seeds like sunflower, flax, or sesame before baking.
