Sloppy Joes are a comforting dish that combines ground meat with a sweet and tangy sauce, served on soft hamburger buns, making it perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef (or turkey) over medium heat, breaking it up with a spatula.
  2. Once the meat is browned, drain any excess fat, and add the diced onion.
  3. Cook the onion until it becomes soft and translucent, about 3 minutes.
  4. Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper.
  5. Mix well and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  6. Stir occasionally and let it cook for about 10 minutes on low heat, allowing the flavors to meld.
  7. Serve the mixture on hamburger buns, and enjoy! Feel free to top with pickles or cheese as desired.

Notes

For a healthier option, substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef. Also, consider using low-sugar ketchup or a vegetarian option with lentils.
