Korean Marinated Eggs, also known as Mayak Gyeran, are deliciously marinated eggs packed with umami flavor, perfect as a snack or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 green onion, chopped (for garnish)
  • Optional: chili flakes for a spicy kick

Instructions

  1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Gently add the eggs and boil for exactly 6-7 minutes for a jammy yolk.
  2. Mix soy sauce, water, sesame oil, minced garlic, and sugar in a bowl until well combined.
  3. Transfer the eggs to an ice bath to stop the cooking process.
  4. Peel the eggs gently, being careful not to break them.
  5. Place the peeled eggs into the soy sauce mixture, ensuring they are submerged. Let them marinate for at least 3 hours, or overnight for best results.
  6. Remove the eggs from the mixture and slice them in half. (Optional: sprinkle with chili flakes for extra flavor!)
  7. Serve the eggs garnished with chopped green onion.

Notes

Store marinated eggs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat carefully to maintain texture.
